Description:
When land and sea are well, people are well, malama ‘āina (taking care of the land) are ancient risk-reduction tools as we restore lo’i, fishponds, cleaning our streams to prevent flooding and protect from impending sea level rise and all guided by kūpuna (elders). Guided by the ancestral knowledge and profound cultural integrity of our kupuna from across the ahupuaʻa, this council will provide the essential cultural grounding and guidance from our kupuna and Nina for all initiatives. By upholding values like lōkahi and actively pursuing mālama ʻāina through the restoration of our loʻi, loko iʻa and streams, we ensure that our resilience strategies are culturally responsive, intergenerational and bring deep purpose to our communities.
